Young Judo Club Bredgar & Sittingbourne Summer Closed Judo Championships Sunday July 20th
This was the 2nd YJC Summer Club Championships to be held at Bredgar Village Hall the home of the Bredgar Young Judo Club. The Bredgar Club has been very successful over the years attracting a lot of members from all the local surrounding villages and has proved to be a successful community project, thanks to brother and Sister Drew and Marcella Cullen. Drew started the club several years ago but for the last year he has lived in the USA leaving Sister Marcella to run the club which she has done rather well. Marcella was a very successful junior Judoka and only returned to the discipline to help her brother but in a remarkable short period of time she won her Black Belt 1st Dan, qualified as an IBF Judo Instructor and a BJA Coach. With Drew coming back on the scene in September Marcella is to start a brand new section on a Monday night at the Swale Martial Arts Club in Sittingbourne. The new section will be quite unique in that it will entirely run by a woman and that it will run on a termly basis, with a termly fee. The competition was a great success and was held in the open air, these informal events are really enjoyed by the youngsters and it brings out there best Judo. Our club is at present going through resurgence with membership on the increase although we could do with a few more girls joining. The club has quite a few 14, 15 and 16 year old boys who will be moving up to the Senior class in September and we quite expect a new crop of Black Belts in the next couple of years all of them will fighting grades.
