Margret Clarke Memorial Swale Results

The death of Margret Clarke in June left a big hole in many peoples lives but we must all move on so the Young Judo Club whom Margret founded in 1957 organised the above event. This event attracted people from all over the country and representatives from Holland. Special memorial pennant and a small booklet on Margret’s life was given to each competitor and officials

Margret’s son gave a short speech on how his mother particularly enjoyed teaching children, he said that booklet explained everything and hoped everyone could spare a few moments to read it. He then went on to introduce his brother Norman 3rd Dan, his wife Valerie 3rd Dan, son John 4th Dan, daughter Donna 1st Dan, Susan 1st Dan, Norman daughter Emma and grandchildren Connie, Lewis and Harry (little Nobby). All Margret’s descendants were there to honour her memory and her contribution to Judo nearly all the adult family had Black Belt status not a bad epitaph to her memory.

The competition as expected was extremely well run by Young Judo Club Coach Keith Costa, Swale Judo clubs all supported this event and each coming back with a great deal of medals, the Young Judo Club fielded nearly 60 Judoka one of the best entries we have had from the club. With so many Gold medals going to Swale Judo clubs it would be wrong for any one individual to be picked out, just to say all the competitors done extremely well.

A group picture was taken of Young Judo Club members and audience was asked if they had ever done Judo with the YJC they welcome to be photographed it was surprising to see so many parent, grandparents and rival club instructors joining the group. Petty rivalries had been put to the back just to support Margret Clarke.
