On Saturday 8^th January 2005 the Young Judo Club held its club championship and presentation disco. The competition was held during the day starting at 10o’clock in the morning, with almost 170 people cramming into east street sports centre over the day.  This competition gives beginners and more experienced players a good start to the New Year. The day was started with the under 8’s and then moving on to the 8 to 15’s.The club has been going from strength to strength with nearly 100 juniors over the 3 sections at Sittingbourne, Milton and Bredgar, all the players and parents had an extremely good time during the day and in the evening. All medals were presented during the evening with nobody missing out.

Special trophies were given out to top junior boy and girl and top sombo junior boy and girl. The top junior boy was Ashley Jordan who entered 12 competitions and took 11 gold’s and one silver. Top girl was Alyx Costa who has had some good results through the year with a second place award going to Perri Mortimer who was only 2 points behind Alyx.Top junior boy sombo player went to Kieran Allen who prefers sombo to judo and top junior girl went to Sheena Fathers who has won the British open title for the last 3 years.

All the children at the club are given the opportunity not just to do judo, Japanese origin, but sombo wrestling, Russian origin and kurash, which comes from Uzbekistan. Doing these different jacket-wrestling sports gives the club members the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. In February they can enter a Kurash competition hosted by the British Kurash Association, in March the British Open Sombo Wrestling hosted by the British Sombo Federation and April their own open judo competition all held at the swallows leisure centre.
