Junior Grading etc

Sorry I was misinformed we did win medals at Epping Liam Jordan Bronze and Loren Allen Bronze our apologies

The young Judo Club have had a busy 4 weeks  at the beginning of September our sister Club at Bredgar organised  a competition for various clubs in the area and had about 40 entries, most of the children won some sort of medal and the event highlighted the clubs activities in Bredgar.

The next event was an IBF Judo grading which was held at the Swale Martial Arts Club, this where the children attempt to get different coloured belts. The standard was some what erratic but Sony Tappin shone out amongst all the youngsters getting a 100% pass mark to obtain Blue Belt one red tab. The children are examined on their theoretical knowledge, their fighting ability and whether they actively involved in competitions, they are allowed to take a grading every 3 months but the Young Judo Club normally have two a year. The grading officers were Keith Costa 3rd Dan and John Clarke 5th Dan, the club does all its grading via a panel with all instructors encouraged to attend to put in their own input

Not everything has been roses I am afraid to say the club returned from a tournament in Epping with just two Bronze medals

With numbers dropping at the club and tournament in Kent being cancelled on a regular basis the youngsters are not getting the competitions to get match fit, it seems a shame that with only a few of our members prepared to travel to competitions  out of all those that graded only few competed and the wonder why they do not move through the grades so quick.

Our attempt at offering free lessons on a Friday was a complete disaster with no one attending , I have said for some time it is not money that keeps kids away from sport it is a cultural one where kids and parents would prefer to watch TV, play the computer etc everyone wants a quick fix, the thought of working hard for something is completely abhorrent.
