DANNY CARROTT IN HOLLAND 2007
Members of the Young Judo club/Warriors Grappling Academy based at the Swale Martial Arts Club East Street Sittingbourne travelled to the Dutch Open Sombo/Judo/Semi contact Championships in Dalfsen Holland, they were 20 year old Danny Carrott and Coach/Father Colin Carrott, and Martin Clarke was also there in his position as the International Budo Federation UK President.
Danny who is an international standard Judo, Sombo and Kurash player entered both the Sombo and Judo events, see attached story of the event, Friday Danny competed in the Sombo event, in previous years this has been a very weak event but this year there was a host of countries from the Eastern block who are known for the prowess in Judo and Sombo. Danny who has been selected to represent GB in the World Sombo Championships to be held in Prague in November entered the u82 kilo class in his preliminary rounds he had no problem but to reach the final he had to fight a very strong and experience Czech Ondrey Kmec, although he gave a good account of himself Danny lost 9pt to 1pt and had to make do with Bronze. A repeat match happened the following day in the Judo, Danny disposed of all his preliminary opponents with relative ease but this time he was in the final against Kmec, if we thought Kmec was a good Samboist he was an even better Judoka , Danny did not have anything for him and eventually lost on a Ippon (total Victory) with a Yoko Tome Nage (side Stomach Throw). Danny was very disappointed but the event proved very useful with martin picking up on some of his weaknesses which were gripping and the need to get physically stronger.
Coaches at the Young Judo Club are concerned that a lot of children will not make the effort to enter competitions, even though competition is an integral part of Judo. To combat this lethargic attitude and complacency which seems endemic into today’s society, the coaches have decided that every pupil must enter at least one competition between gradings, this is a complete turn around 20 years ago the club had to restrict youngsters from entering to many competitions.
