BEDFORD OPEN JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP

Sunday June 25th 2006

This annual event attracts competitors from all over the country and is reserved for IBF members only. The date was not the best one to pick because of the English football match, which played on the same day hence the very small team 7 in all from Young Judo Club and Sittingbourne Judo Society.

The Jordan family on this occasion represented the Sittingbourne Judo Society with all three boys winning medals a proud moment for Mum Sarah who is an Instructor at the club. Liam Jordan the youngest in the family done extremely well to win Silver u18 kilo, Aaron Jordan kept the family medal tally going by winning Silver u30 kilo, Ashley Jordan just can not get any decent opposition his weight so it was decided to move him up not one weight cat but two and he still won the Gold. Ashley is now at Sittingbourne Community College if he can put on some weight he will be a force to be reckoned with in years to come.

Young Judo Club brothers James and William McMasters both won silver 33 kilo and 36-kilo class. Coach Keith Costa felt that William only lost because of the excitement of making the final; Williams Dad was very pleased especially as he was a member of the YJC in his younger days. Ben Franks won bronze u36 kilo class, Ben has a lot of potential but needs to control his temper and accept defeat gracefully

YJC Jamie Marzetti had most probably the best result of the day because it was his thirteenth birthday and at 13 he had to compete against lads as old as 15 years he entered his own weight u60 kilo as well as the o 60 kilo winning Gold and Bronze respectively. James is a big boy for his age as he gets older he will become devastating.

Every youngster form Sittingbourne won a medal.

Sittingbourne Community College will be having a stand a the County Show this year and they have asked the Young Judo Club to put on a Judo display at the event on the Saturday. The reason for this is that Judo will become part of the curriculum in September and YJC Coach John Clarke 4th Dan who is already a member of the PE Staff will be teaching, this will prove an exciting period for both the club and school proving that the two can work together. Hopefully this will bring a lot more youngster to the art of Judo, John is the third generation of Clarkes to teach Judo in School the others were Grandparents John (Nobby), Margret and Dad Martin.
