Advanced Junior Judo Grading

Young Judo club

Swale Martial Arts Club

Sittingbourne

On Saturday and Sunday September 27th, 28th those juniors wishing to obtain grades over orange belt had to attend this two day course which entailed Theory and Kata ( This is a demonstration of pre set movements done in a traditional manner) also they had to prove there competition ability by producing records of there entry into competitions and their placing. The latter being somewhat controversial in today’s modern Judo, with a lot of organisations ignoring the competitive side of Judo until they reach Black Belt standard. The International Budo Federation who organise the gradings for the Young Judo Club steadfastly refuse to alter there standards and insist young Judoka received a rounded knowledge of the Sport come Martial Art. They also do not believe that youngsters should pass a grade just because they have entered; this attitude of no winners or losers perpetuated by the Educational system in England for the last 20 years has had disastrous effect on the ability of our young people to accept disappointment or rejection, they no longer have the ability to as the song goes “Pick yourself up dust yourself down and start all over again” Being a winner and good at Judo at the Young Judo Club is actually encourage as is working hard and dedication. Max Hall Stevens was commended on an outstanding performance and was congratulated on his knowledge of Judo Throws
