4 New Dan Grades for 2007

Four members of the Young Judo Club Sittingbourne & Bredgar participated in a Judo Black Belt Grading under the auspices of the International Budo Federation. The climax of the grading was on Saturday January 6th 2007 at the Swale Martial Arts Club Sittingbourne how ever they started there journey to Black belt 18 months ago when they were told they had to attend training classes in Kata (Formalised training) every Monday night. On Saturday they had to prove their competence in all aspects of Judo including Ju No Kata, demonstration of throws, counters, combinations as well as answering questions on Refereeing rules, etiquette, Judo philosophy and Judo history. Sarah Jordan, Sarah day and Marcella Cullen passed to 1st Dan Black Belt and Miles Brown passed to 2nd Dan Black belt.
The three ladies are all mothers Sarah Jordan is in her thirties while Sarah Day and Marcella are in their forties, Miles is also in his 40’s but the most interesting fact is that they all done Judo at the YJC as children and all were very successful competitors so the continuity of 50 years of the YJC can be seen through people like this.
Both Sarah’s are Assistant Instructors, Miles Brown Coaches juniors on a Wednesday night and Marcella Cullen is the resident Coach at the Bredgar YJC
